A monograph on one of the most famous Indian artists of his generation

Tender, concerned and ironic, his works are inspired by current Indian politics as well as by sociology, biology, astronomy and archaeology. In 2015, the video The Eternal Gradient featured 365 round Indian buns - rotis - imitating each phase of an
annual moon cycle, combining the beauty of the stars with that of everyday life. In 2017, after a five-year break, he returned to painting with Palindrome/Anagram Painting, a mysterious herbarium in which oversized fossils stand alongside delicate
vegetation.
Time, ritual and nature also drive his latest installation: in early 2023, in front of Somerset House in London, Whorled (Here After Here After Here) unrolls 168 metres of concentric spirals made of biodegradable mesh and printed on one side, like road signs, with the names of worldwide locations threatened by rising waters or already destroyed.
Jitish Kallat exhibits all over the world. He is represented by Galerie Templon in France and Belgium.
