Alexandre Comte studies Deuteronomy chapter 26 at the conclusion of the corpus of laws. Alexandre Comte's study of Deuteronomy chapter 26 is based on the work of Gerhard von Rad ( Das formgeschichtliche Problem des Hexateuchs, 1938). After noting the many criticisms leveled at von Rad, the author reassesses his intuitions, and without limiting himself to a reading of the historical narrative (Deut. 26:5a-9), he seeks to understand the entirety of chapter 26, taking Deut. 25:17-19 as its introduction. Using a narrative analysis, he demonstrates the unity of the sequence formed by the two rituals (the offering of the first fruits and the offering of the tithe) and their effect on the listener or reader in the context of the book of Deuteronomy. The author highlights Deut. 25:17-26:19, at the conclusion of the corpus of laws, as the joyful moment when man responds perfectly to God's gift.
