Paula M. Pickering is the Richard S. Perles Professor of Government at William & Mary. Her research focuses on peacebuilding, local governance, and civic engagement in Southeastern Europe. Pickering is co-editor of Activism in Hard Times in Central and Eastern Europe and the author of Peacebuilding in the Balkans. Her research has received support from the Polish National Science Center, Evidence in Politics and Governance, the US Institute of Peace, the Social Science Research Council, and Fulbright-Hays. Pickering worked for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina (1996) and as an analyst on Eastern Europe at the US Department of State (1990-1994). She received a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Michigan.
Jennie L. Schulze is Associate Professor of political science and Director of the Center for Migration, Displacement, and Community Studies at Duquesne University, where she teaches courses on comparative politics and international relations. Her research focuses on the influence of European institutions and kin-states on minority policies and minority integration in Central and Eastern Europe. She is the author of Strategic Frames: Europe, Russia, and Minority Inclusion in Estonia and Latvia (University of Pittsburgh, 2018). The book was awarded an Honorable Mention for the Joseph Rothschild Prize in Nationalism and Ethnic Studies. She has regularly served as an expert on Estonia and Latvia for the US Department of State and the US Department of Defense, and currently serves as Book Review Editor for Nationalities Papers. She is currently working on a new comparative book project, Cities of Bridges: Receiving Refugees in Times of Crisis. Zsuzsa Csergo is ***Sir Edward Peacock Professor in Nationalism and Democracy Studies at Queen's University, Canada. She has published widely on nationalism, kin-state politics, minority politics, and the impact of European integration in Central and Eastern Europe. Her publications include: Talk of the Nation: Language and Conflict in Romania and Slovakia (Cornell University Press, 2007); Europeanization and Minority Political Agency in Post-Communist Europe (Routledge, 2018), co-edited with Ada Regelmann; Central and East European Politics* (5th edition, Rowman & Littlefield, 2021), co-edited with Daina Eglitis and Paula Pickering. She has been a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the European University Institute, and a visiting scholar at the University of Graz, Central European University, and the European Center for Minority Issues.
