Plymouth, Massachusetts, is recognized as the first permanent European settlement in the New World, but there's more to its iconic history than the Pilgrims. The mother of the American Revolution, Mercy Otis Warren, attacked royal authority even before the British blockade of Cape Cod Bay. Plymouth's seafaring past was glorious because the town boasted its own rope factory. From its earliest geologic history to the sporting life in the 1970s at Pine Hills, these ancient grounds are home to true tales of Natives, human resilience, innovation, heartbreak, and courage. Historian Theresa Mitchell Webster goes beyond the sites visitors pass every day and uncovers the enduring spirit within this quintessential New England community known as America's Hometown.
