This book gives a critical evaluation of the Vienna Circle, its historical influences, and the philosophical legacy of logical empiricism. The first part of the volume contains nine original research articles by leading experts in the field on the philosophical work of Rudolf Carnap, Philipp Frank, Otto Neurath, Janina Hosiassion-Lindenbaum, Susan Stebbing, and Gustav Hempel (among others) and their respective influence on subsequent developments in philosophy and the science studies. Georg Schiemer is Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Head of Department of the Institute Vienna Circle at the University of Vienna. He is also an external fellow at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy at LMU Munich. His research focuses on the history and philosophy of mathematics and early analytic philosophy. He is also interested in logic, the history and philosophy of logic and formal philosophy of science.
