Subhasish Dey is a hydraulician and educator. He is known for his research on the hydrodynamics throughout the world and acclaimed for his contributions to develop theories and solution methodologies of various problems on applied hydrodynamics, turbulence, shallow fluid flows and sediment transport. He is currently Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, where he teaches free surface flow, hydraulics of sediment transport and turbulent fluid flow in postgraduate level. He served as Head of the Department of Civil Engineering during 2013-15 and held the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China (2016-19), Adjunct Professor of Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata (2014-19) and Brahmaputra Chair Professor, IIT Kharagpur during 2009-14 and 2015. He was conferred with the Hans Albert Einstein Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in 2022.
