Klappentext

Bestselling author Simran Jeet Singh offers an informative and insightful introduction to the world's fifth largest religion. Most westerners could not tell you a single thing about the world's fifth-largest religion. There are thirty-million Sikhs today, yet most Westerners cannot correctly identify a turban-wearing Sikh. Sikhism is often overlooked, excluded, or misunderstood in the West. Secondary sources are simply unavailable in many cases. When they do exist, they're outdated, present outmoded and debunked claims, or lump the religion in with another tradition. In this book, Simran Jeet Singh seeks to fill that knowledge gap in a readable, exciting, and authoritative account. The Sikh Tradition takes a chronological and thematic approach to introducing the tradition, beginning with the life of its founder, Guru Nanak. Along the way, the book delves into other significant aspects of the Sikh religion, including its beliefs, practices, scriptures, and more. Simran Jeet Singh engages his own academic training to challenge our assumptions and the categories we use, and he leverages his knowledge and lived experience to offer different ways of understanding the tradition. This book is designed for people interested in learning the basics of Sikhism: its history, its practices, and its views. The Sikh Tradition is a valuable resource for students and educators--and also a highly engaging account of one of the world's major religions for people who are interested in learning more about the storied tradition.
