This is the final volume of a series devoted to photorefractive effects, photorefractive materials and their applications. Since the publication of the first two volumes (Topics in Applied Physics, Vols 61 and 62) almost 20 years ago, new and often unexpected effects have been discovered. Theoretical models have been developed, known effects can be finally explained and novel applications have been proposed. For this volume, the editors have invited top experts to reflect on the maturity of the field, assessing progress so far, and predicting avenues of future development. In addition, a series of applications of photorefractive nonlinear optics and of optical data storage are presented in several chapters. Developed mainly for researchers in the field, the series will be useful for physics, engineering and materials science students, offering sufficient introductory material for readers new to the topic to gain a thorough understanding of the photorefractive effect.
Photorefractive materials is an important and growing area of research The book series is an up-to-date overview written by leading experts and clearly structured into 3 volumes This second volume covers the most important photorefractive materials and provides a useful source of reference for researchers in this field

In this third volume a series of applications on photorefractive nonlinear optics and optical data storage are presented. This and the other two volumes on photorefractive effects, materials and applications have been prepared mainly for researchers in the field, but also for physics, engineering and materials science students. Several chapters contain sufficient introductory material for those not so familiar with the topic to obtain a thorough understanding of the photorefractive effect. We hope that researchers active in the field will find these books to be a very valuable reference source.
The other two volumes are:
Photorefractive Materials and Their Applications 1: Basic Effects
Photorefractive Materials and Their Applications 2: Materials
