When I was a kid, my favorite book was Dr. Seuss’ My Book about ME. It was an interactive book that had questions with blanks to fill in, places to tape pictures, and boxes to color in. It was fun. But more than just being fun, it was my book to write all about my favorite topic (at least according to my mother) — ME! This is YOUR book to write about your favorite topic — KNITTING! When I am working with my students in a classroom, I’m employing all three prongs of learning: verbal, visual, tactile. In Patty Lyons’ Knitting Bag of Tricks, I wanted to put a master knitting class in your hands. Thanks to my brilliant editor Carol Sulcoski, we have verbal covered (the words); thanks to my equally brilliant technical illustrator Linda Schmidt, we have the visual set (pictures); but tactile, the hands-on knitting, is the missing link.
