Paloma E. Villegas, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Critical Migration Studies in the Department of Sociology at California State University, San Bernardino. Her work examines the operation of borders and the intersections between immigration status, race, and gender. She is also an interdisciplinary artist. Her book North of El Norte: Illegalized Mexican Migrants in Canada was published in 2020 by UBC Press. Tanya Aberman, Ph.D., is the coordinator of the Sanctuary Scholars programs at York University and Toronto Metropolitan University, programs that provide access to the universities for students who have precarious immigration status. She specializes in the area of access to education, having developed, coordinated and taught community and university-based education programs for migrant students.
