Ethnomedicine is a sub discipline of Medical Anthropology.It is a study of beliefs and practices concerning illness in different human populations.Precisely,dealing with those practices and knowledge systems, which are not derived from the conceptual framework of modern medicine.It observes and describes hygienic, preventive and healing practices of Indigenous society. A greater emphasis today is the study of socio- cultural matrix with in which the health practices takes place. The knowledge of indigenous practices relating to diagnosis and treatment of illness is considered to be very significant today. This book basically deals with definition,meaning,review and main objective of the subject in introductory chapter.Subsequent chapters deals with ethnographic profile of Gonds, a tribe which is lived in Adilabad district of Telangana state, India.,perceptions and practices of illnesses, the religious healing,types of healing,changes in ethnomedical practices and illness behaviour.This book is intended to be of interest to all those who are interested to learn about health, illness and ethnomedical practices,especially those in disciplines of Anthropology and Sociology.

Mr. Srinivasu graduated in Bio-Science from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur,A.P. He holds M.A.& M.Phil in Social Anthropology from University of Hyderabad, and pursuing Ph.D from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.Since three years, he has been working with State Institute of Educational Management & Training as Lecture in Educational Management
