Following his residency in general surgery at the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças (1995), he completed fellowships in gastrointestinal surgery (1999) and minimally invasive surgery (2000). He was then awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship and a clinical fellowship in abdominal organ transplant by the University of Miami in 2001 and 2003, respectively. He holds a PhD in Gastrointestinal Surgery from the University of São Paulo (2015), and was an Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer at the same university (2016). He is currently a Professor of Surgery, Director of Solid Organ Transplant Services. Chief, Liver and Gastrointestinal Transplantation. The Andreas Tzakis Chair in Transplant Surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Transplant Institute. He is a Fellow of the Brazilian College of Surgeons and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
