Compact objects are an important class of astronomical objects in current research. Max Camenzind studierte Physik und Astronomie an der Universität Bern und promovierte 1973 auf dem Gebiet der Eichtheorien der Gravitation. Nach mehreren Aufenthalten an in- und ausländischen Universitäten übernahm er 1986 an der Landessternwarte Königstuhl die Leitung einer Theoriegruppe in Astrophysik und lehrte an der Universität Heidelberg und an der Technischen Universität Darmstadt Astrophysik und Relativitätstheorie. Seit Ende 2009 ist er im Ruhestand und betreut seitdem mehrere Akademien für Senioren in Astronomie und Physik. 2007 ist im Springer-Verlag das umfassende Lehrbuch über "Compact Objects" erschienen.
