From acclaimed author Lo Patrick comes another piercing southern mystery, perfect for readers of Middletide and Amity Gaige. When new evidence reopens the disappearance of her childhood best friend, a teenage girl is pulled back into the summer that shattered everything. As she is forced to uncover a chilling web of manipulation and silence, she finds that the truth was never lost, just buried in plain sight.

Ten-year-old Melissa McTavish lives a tightly controlled life in Randall, Georgia, a silent, stagnant town where little ever changes. Until her best friend, Kelly Binder, vanishes without a trace.

Years later, Melissa remains tethered to that summer Kelly disappeared. So when a series of disturbing photographs taken from outside Kelly's home surfaces, reopening the cold case, Melissa finds herself drawn back into memories she has spent years trying to escape. Memories of Kelly. Of the neighboring estate where an older boy lived. And of everything Melissa saw and failed to understand.

Working with Detective Carla Shoemaker, Melissa slowly begins to find the voice she lost after Kelly vanished. But the closer they get to the truth, the more unsettling the past becomes. And as the secrets of that long-ago summer finally surface, Melissa must confront the idea that Kelly may not be the only young girl snared in the dark underbelly of their small town. And that Randall has always known exactly how to keep its girls quiet.
