Kimberly Manning Aker grew up surrounded by Connecticut woods. Her natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge began at a girls' country day school in Rowayton, Connecticut, and continued through formal education in England, France, and San Francisco. As a designer, lecturer, writer and artist, she told stories all her life, with her wide-ranging travels and interests feeding her vibrant imagination. Kimberly was married to Jeff Aker for almost 21 years, a life together of travel, laughter and devotion to their beautiful 1912 Oakland, California, home, which they restored and made into an urban oasis. Kimberly published her first novel, Where Two Streams Join, in 2020. She completed the final draft of The Mudlark's Song just before her untimely death in 2024.
