The European Union shapes the daily lives of Europeans in profound ways. From digital regulation and privacy to the green transition, international trade, and migration, its influence is far-reaching. Yet the processes behind EU policy-making often remain opaque. Many citizens lack a clear understanding of how policies are created, who is involved, and how they themselves can engage with and influence these decisions.

Understanding Europe provides clear and accessible guidance to the workings of the European Union. It explains the roles of key institutions and decision-making structures while examining the most pressing issues facing Europe today and their implications for citizens and businesses.

Written as a practical guide, this book is intended for organisations, students, policymakers, and engaged citizens seeking to navigate the European policy landscape more effectively. By outlining the EU's main areas of activity and its position in the world, it offers a coherent picture of where Europe stands today and the directions it may take in the future.

A deeper understanding of the European Union is essential for ensuring the resilience and sustainability of European democracy.

Explains EU institutions in clear terms, making them understandable for a wide audience Shows how EU policies affect citizens and businesses directly Offers practical guidance on how to respond to and influence EU policymaking
