He is the author of several books, including Ishmael Instructs Isaac: An Introduction to the Qur'an for Bible Readers and The Old Testament: Its Background, Growth, and Content, which he co-wrote with Steven L. McKenzie. He lives in Memphis, Tennessee.

Steven L. McKenzie is professor of Hebrew Bible and Old Testament at Rhodes College.
