Building LEGO® Worlds

The ultimate guide to creating breathtaking LEGO worlds — from elven forests and pirate coves to steampunk cities, solarpunk skyscrapers, cyberpunk megablocks, and beyond.

Jeff Friesen — master microscale builder, photographer, and LEGO artist — teaches readers how to build entire worlds, not just models. With stunning visuals and clear step-by-step instructions, this book reveals the techniques, architectural styles, and creative principles behind his most imaginative scenes.

Across more than a dozen fully realized themed worlds, readers learn how to combine landscape, architecture, transportation, and atmosphere into cohesive miniature universes. They’ll construct everything from waterfalls, cliffs, and ancient temples to futuristic skylines, ring-based skyscrapers, fairground rides, and steampunk clockworks.

This beautifully photographed, full-color book is both a creativity workshop and an art piece — a guided journey for anyone who wants to design LEGO creations with story, style, and a sense of place.

Your World, Your Way.

You already know how to follow the instructions. This book is for what comes after.

Building LEGO Worlds gives you the toolkit to create environments that feel like real places: landscapes with depth and texture, streets that seem to go somewhere, cities and forests and harbors with their own internal logic.

Start with the building blocks: terrain, plant life, roads, watercraft, trains, and buildings that work across any world you can imagine. Modular by design, so the pieces work together however you choose to combine them.

Then build eleven complete worlds from scratch. Elven Haven. Pirate Cove. Mythic Empire. Japanese Hot Springs Village. Classic Skyscrapers. Modern Metropolis. Boardwalk. Art Deco Futurism. Steampunk. Solarpunk. Cyberpunk. More than 130 models, step by step, with BrickLink part numbers throughout. Each one showing how architecture shapes atmosphere. Not just what to build, but why it works.

Next up: your imagination.
