The latest edition of the leading resource for mental health practitioners treating postnatal depression

In the newly revised Second Editon of Treating Postnatal Depression: A Cognitive-Behavioural Approach for Health Care Practitioners, a team of expert psychologists delivers an up-to-date and authoratative overview of postnatal depression (PND). The book brings together modern theories and key research to offer readers a robust framework for intervention. The authors explain how to assess postnatal depression in the context of diagnostic criteria and describe the effect of PND on mothers, their partnerns, their children, and families.

The described treatment framework is based on a cognitive-behavioural model adapted to meet the unique and specific needs of new mothers. It addresses relationship issues frequently encountered by sufferers of PND with approaches drawn from interpersonal psychotherapy and attachment theory.

A detailed step-by-step manual to treat PND is included. Consisting of twelve cognitive behavioural therapy sessions delivered in a group format, the methodology has been proven effective in several randomised, controlled trials. The book also offers:

• A treatment protocol well suited to a patient population that is frequently unwilling to take antidepressant medication while breastfeeding
• Valuable exercises adapted to the busy lives of new mothers
• Treatment options consistent with the very latest research on postnatal depression treatment and management and current Australian and international guidelines for the treatment of perinatal mental health
• Supplementary material available to both practitioners and patients. Perfect for clinicans, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, and general practitioners, Treating Postnatal Depression: A Cognititive-Behavioural Approach for Health Care Practitioners will earn a place in the libraries of researchers, academics, and students.
