This concise textbook introduces a systems approach to technology, describing tribological, mechatronic, cyber-physical systems, and the technologic concept of Industry 4.0 to students in a range of engineering domains. Technology in this book refers to the totality of human-made, benefit-oriented products, based on engineered combinations of material, energy and information. Dr. Czichos examines technology in this volume in the context of systems thinking with regard to the following main technology areas

Autorentext

Horst Czichos hat einen Abschluss in Feinmechanik und arbeitete als Konstrukteur in der optischen Industrie. Er hat Abschlüsse in Physik (FU Berlin) und in Materialwissenschaften (TU Berlin) und erhielt von der Universität Leuven die Ehrendoktorwürde für seine interdisziplinären Forschungen im Bereich Tribologie. Er war Präsident der BAM (1992 bis 2002) und von EUROLAB. Derzeit ist er Professor für Mechatronik an der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (BHT) Berlin. In seinen Veröffentlichungen betont Dr. Czichos die Bedeutung des Systemdenkens in Wissenschaft und Technik. Im Jahr 2013 veröffentlichte er ein Buch über den Dreiklang Philosophie - Physik - Technik, das als englische Ausgabe unter dem Titel "The Word is Triangular" (Springer 2021) erschien.
