Create one-of-a-kind striped modular blankets with this unique mix-and-match approach.Featuring 100 crochet strip patterns for modern striped blankets, this book opens up a world of design possibilities for crochet blankets, how you choose to combine the strips is completely up to you!Making modular blankets is not a new concept, but most books tend to focus on granny squares to do this. By crocheting individual strips instead, you can achieve a much more modern look, with pattern, colour and texture variations tailored to suit your individual style. Working in this modular way makes crocheting blankets achievable, portable and fun, as each strip is worked along the short edge, making long starting chains a thing of the past! Each strip pattern is given in US crochet terms, with written pattern and chart for making a standard throw-blanket-width strip (40in/100cm across). Advice is given on adjusting the width of the strips for smaller or larger blankets. The strip patterns are broken down into chapters including:- Classic Stitches**- Tapestry Crochet****- Mosaic Crochet****- Texture****- Cables and Ribs****- Embellishments**This collection offers almost infinite possibilities to create unique striped blankets that are fun to work on as well as beautiful when finished. As well as the 100 strip patterns, there are 5 example blankets showing different combinations of strips, plus additional ideas for using the strips in other ways, such as scarves, bags and homewares.

There are many thrilling moments in the life of a freelance crochet designer. I know, you wouldn't believe it - thrills and crochet in the same breath - but it's true! And it's no word of a lie to say that this book, Mix and Match Modern Crochet Blankets, came about simply through a series of such thrills.Firstly, the thrill of seeing my previous book, Mosaic Crochet Workshop, actually sell - and do rather well. Then there was the thrill of going to London to meet with my publisher, the lovely Ame Verso from David & Charles, to discuss the aforementioned book and see if there was another book bubbling away in my mind, just waiting to be written. The thrill of perching on bar stools together, drinking Guinness (am I allowed to admit that? It was only lunchtime...) and eating fish finger sandwiches in a lovely west London pub. And the thrill of laughing and chatting about crochet, about its scope and versatility, about how if you think laterally you can fling it wide open and come up with all manner of new, exciting directions and dimensions. See what I mean? Thrills and crochet! But, in all seriousness, as we were talking, Ame and I realized there was a beautiful opportunity here to put together a brand new style of book, with a brilliantly simple idea behind it - a mix and match crochet manual of 100 different crochet patterns. Each pattern would be worked into an individual long strip and then seamed together with other strips in any combination you like, in any colours, to create your own amazing and unique blankets. With Ame's infectious, unwavering positivity and my designer brain raring to go (and, I have to say, my wonderful, long-suffering testers on hand), Mix and Match Modern Crochet Blankets came into being. As you flick through the pages of this book, you'll find a vast array of crochet styles and techniques. With so many patterns to choose from, it has been grouped into eight sections, so you can really get stuck into a 'theme' - such as bobbles or filet - or mix it up as much as you like. There are countless options for texture, colourwork, modern techniques and more traditional crochet... And if that wasn't enough to whet your appetite, you'll also find some fun extra projects that use a couple of the patterns in different ways. If you have time, I wholeheartedly recommend grabbing a drink and a quiet half hour (at least!) to have a good browse through the entire book before you reach for your hook and yarn. Each pattern is written in full, and has a chart and a cute little picture of the swatch, so I do hope you will find lots of inspiration, and maybe even try your hand at a crochet technique or two you've never tried before. You can absolutely dive in and start creating your own masterpiece or, if you need help to get started, I have designed five beautiful 'vibe' blankets to offer you some inspiration. Later on in the book there are options to add a simple edging, plus tips on adding embellishments such as pompoms and tassels to finish off your blanket with a flourish. However you go about it, it's worth reading through the information on the following pages to get you started. Then begin exploring this wonderful world of colour, texture and pattern. There's a treasure trove of ideas within the pages of Mix and Match Modern Crochet Blankets, and I hope you enjoy every second of your own mix and match crochet adventure! I honestly cannot wait to see all your masterpieces!
