On the shores of an ocean-- where ancient forces haunt the depths and compel the dead to walk straight out of the sea-- stands Curwen: immature, transgender, necromancer, last acolyte of the Old Ones. And he is dying. While searching for a way to save himself, Curwen is accosted by rival cultists from across the sea: Dmitri, an angry, pale swordsman, and Ivan, Dmitri's blind, compassionate older " brother." They capture Curwen, but not before he uses his powers to prevent the brothers from leaving his beachside home. Despite their contradictory goals-- the necromancer wishes to bring about the end of the world, the cultists to save it-- Cur and Ivan grow closer. Power and intimacy shift uneasily between the trio as they struggle to survive and make sense of one another. Eventually it becomes clear that Curwen must make a choice between serving the desires of the Old Ones, himself, or the cultists.
