James Buchanan (1919-2013), economist and philosopher, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1986 for his original theory of political democracy as market exchange. Buchanan believed economics should be concerned with liberty, individualism and equity.

Anyone interested in the ideas of James Buchanan will find this book worthwhile. The book has extensive citations to Buchanan's work, making it easy for readers who want to follow up on particular themes. it does offer many biographical insights that provide interesting background on the development of some of the concepts that are found throughout Buchanan's work.
