This proceedings volume contains chapters presented at the African Conference for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ACIAM 2024), held in in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 30 October 5. It brings together a collection of original research chapters that showcase the dynamism of applied mathematics as both a theoretical discipline and a practical instrument for addressing global and regional challenges. Oluwole Daniel Makinde is Distinguished Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computations, Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. A globally acclaimed scholar and leader in applied mathematics and computational science, he is serving as Vice-President of both the African Mathematical Union (Southern African Region) and the African Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. His fields of research are nonlinear differential equations, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer and mathematical modelling of complex scientific and engineering problems. He has earned numerous prestigious accolades, including the NSTF/NRF TW Kambule Senior Researcher Award, AU-Kwame Nkrumah Continental Scientific Award, Obada Prize, AMU-PACOM Award and the N Guerekata Excellence in Mathematics Award. Recognized among the world s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier, He has mentored countless postgraduate and early-career researchers across Africa, fostering a vibrant mathematical community. He is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, the Nigerian Mathematical Society, and the Institute of Physics, exemplifying a career marked by excellence, leadership and service to academia and society.

Abdon Atangana is Professor of Applied Mathematics, University of the Free State, South Africa. He is the Chair of the African Mathematical Union Commission for Research and Innovation and the President of the African Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics. Renowned globally for pioneering work in fractional and fractal-fractional calculus, his research interest in non-singular kernel operators has significantly advanced applications across hydrology, epidemiology, physics, engineering and the applied sciences. Recognized as one of the world s most highly cited researchers (2019 2021), he has received the Obada Prize, TWAS Mathematics Award, UNESCO Al Fozan STEM Award, African Genius Award and the Black Stars Award. Ranked consistently among the top 2% mathematicians worldwide by Stanford University and Elsevier since 2019, he is a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences and a passionate advocate for mathematics as a tool for global problem-solving and African research leadership. His prolific publications, editorial contributions and mentorship of emerging scholars continue to shape the future of mathematics in service of innovation, sustainability, and policy.

Makosha Ishmaeline Charlotte Morakaladi is Postdoctoral Researcher in the Institute for Groundwater Studies, Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Science, University of the Free State, South Africa. She is Deputy Secretary of the African Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ASIAM).
