As labour and other resources mo...Agricultural transformation can be defined as the process by which an agri-food system transforms over time from being subsistence-oriented and farm-centred into one that is more commercialized, productive and off-farm-centred. As labour and other resources move from traditional into more modern economic activities, overall productivity rises and incomes expand. Agricultural transformation is considered inclusive when the results lead to poverty reduction, increased food security, and improvements in gender equality and women's empowerment. This contributed volume offers a variety of case studies with a focus on key elements of agricultural transformation e.g., farm mechanization, role of labour, technical efficiency, agricultural commodity prices, farm-crop diversification, agri-food value chain, agricultural research and policy interventions that helps in specialization and commercialization of agriculture. To understand the linkage, the book includes chapters on farm incomes, poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition. The book identifies key drivers of agricultural transformation, including technological innovations, climate change, and shifting consumer preferences. Professor Swati Rajput is a distinguished academic, researcher, and author serving as Professor in the Department of Geography at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi. With more than two decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience, she has established herself as a recognized scholar in the fields of Geography of Health, Food Security, Agricultural Transformation, Urban Ecology, spatial epidemiology, Environmental Psychology, and Sustainable Development. She received M.Phil and Ph.D. from Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. She held the position of National Resource Person in Social Sciences awarded by UNFPA- MHRD. She has remained a rank holder throughout academics. She is a recipient of Delhi University Gold medal and NS Pradhan Award for academic excellence. She has also received Venus International Women s Award in 2020 for her research work. She has published several research papers in national and international journals and has been supervising various M. Phils and Ph.Ds. She has authored and edited books published by leading international publishers including Springer, Routledge, and Concept Publishing. Her scholarly work explores the complex relationships between environment, health, food systems, urbanization, and human well-being, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and social equity. Her recent book Urban Green Space, Health Economics and Air Pollution in Delhi has been published by Routledge, Francis and Taylor Group, UK. The book's excerpts have been included in Sustainable Development Goals online collection . The book also received the National Green Literature Award in 2023. She has also edited a book on sustainable smart cities by Springer publication, which has been acknowledged at various international platforms. It was among the top 25% of the most downloaded books in 2019. Her textbook Geography of Health , 2025, published under concept publications is among 10,000 most popular books in the Science and Technology category of Amazon. She has also participated, chaired and presented research papers in many National and International conferences. She has been associated with content building and E-learning modules with MHRD project of e-pathshala, IGNOU and Swayam. She completed Innovation Project: Stipulating the Role of Agriculture and Forestry in Delhi: Mapping and Analysis., 2015-16 sponsored by the Delhi University. She also worked as Project Director on a major research project titled Mapping and analyzing the land use and land cover and food insecurity in Rajasthan , sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Co Project Director in Viksit Bharat @2047 ICSSR project on Benchmarking Green Buildings in Delhi NCR. She is presently on the advisory board and Founder Member of the Association of Human Geographers (AHG) IGU. Dr. Pravin Kokane obtained his MA and Ph.D. in Geography from Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Mumbai. Prior to this appointment, he served as a Junior Research Fellow at the Central University of Karnataka. He has also served as Visiting Faculty at the State Institute for Administrative Careers (SIAC) and the Academy of Administrative Careers, University of Mumbai where he taught Geography to UPSC Aspirants, and contributed as an Author and Member of the Geography Study Group (Standards XI and XII) for the State Board of Higher Secondary Education, Pune.His academic expertise spans Statistics, Applied Research, and Spatial Data Analysis, and he teaches courses in Economic Geography, Population Geography, GIS, and Remote Sensing at the postgraduate level.
