Synchrotron radiation has been a revolutionary and invaluable research tool for a wide range of scientists, including chemists, biologists, physicists, materials scientists, geophysicists. Stephen P. Cramer is a chemist with over 45 years' experience in the field of synchrotron radiation.  He is Advanced Light Source Professor Emeritus at UC Davis and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.  He is now a senior research scientist at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California and an Einstein Visiting Fellow at the Technical University of Berlin.
