Long years of experience have strengthened the authors' convictions that the most efficient way of introducing beginner students to fundamental issues in Romance linguistics is to develop their knowledge in the three areas (a) work techniques/aids, (b) linguistic disciplines, and (c) the Romance languages parallel to one another. This encourages theoretical reflection and the acquisition of practical skills in an organic and mutually reinforcing way. 13 units give a concentrated overview of the subject. Special importance is attached to the copious exercises section, which also provides reading guidance to systematically selected introductory literature.
