Between 1815 and 1871, Prussian Catholicism became increasingly politicized. This shift is evidenced by the forms of piety manifested by many Catholics and their opposition to government policies that interfered with their religious life. At the same time, the sources show that over time, government policy toward the Catholic Church was set more by ministers and less by monarchs.
