This volume reconstructs the emergence and development of Marx' theory of economic crises. Marx lived through five major crises and came to terms with them in his economic manuscripts, historic writings, notebooks of excerpts, and letters, of which many were only published recently in the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe . Marx did not want to merely explain the recurrence of crises; he also wanted to understand how and why they change the world.
