Theodor Storm's novella Der Doppelgänger depicts the fate of someone released from prison who seeks in vain to become reintegrated in society. The novel is written with great literary empathy, and is informed by the writer's professional background (he was an attorney and judge). With commentary by Thomas Vormbaum and Walter Zimorski.
