By analyzing works from the life sciences and human sciences, this volume shows how genealogy the leading method for organizing mutable historical systems reconfigured the nineteenth-century world. Languages, biological species, religions, and "races" were understood as networks of sibling relationships, which led to a problematic entanglement between affect and modern knowledge.
