This volume's contributors demonstrate and categorize phenomena of scriptural expansion ("Fortschreibung") or exegesis in the Pentateuch and its textual history as well as in empirical examples from Qumran, Egypt, and Mesopotamia in order to reveal their techniques, hermeneutics and theological intentions.

The literary genesis of many texts within the Hebrew Bible can be explained as scriptural expansion ("Fortschreibung") or exegesis: Later texts expand older texts and regularly adapt them to new situations inside or outside the texts. The literary techniques and hermeneutical reasons behind these processes are manifold, however not yet categorized comprehensively.
