After an introduction to the problems of exegesis of the prophets, he deals mainly with three fundamental issues using several case studies/examples: the relationship between Ancient Near East and Old Testament prophecy, the distinction between the historical and the literary prophets in the books of the Old Testament as well as the reception of the Old Testament books of the prophets in the Dead Sea scrolls. In this way, Reinhard G. Kratz gives an overall picture of biblical prophetic literature as well as insight into three well-known representatives of this exceptional genre of literature.
