There is considerable pressure on libraries to change and evolve. Key elements here include the shift in the library sector from printed to digital literature and information, the major effects of this shift on the service portfolios, on working and organizational processes and on the deployment of staff. The potential conflict between service innovations and the need to cut costs presents a major challenge to information institutions; this collection of articles takes a solution-oriented approach to the various dimensions of the challenge.
