This volume fills a gap in research on religious history of Europe, namely the problem of confessionalism and confessionalisation in non-Western Christian traditions. The studies of this volume focus on the Orthodox Eastern and Southeastern cultures and hereby, enrich the research on European dynamics of Christian denominations after 13th century till now. With the main focus on the Orthodox traditions of the continent, the papers display new perspectives on mechanisms of religious and confessional identity within European Christianity.
