This work presents the findings of an empirical study conducted at Goethe University Frankfurt, concerning the legal realities of public defender assignment since the new law came in effect in 2010. The monograph summarizes the results of a survey of around 3,300 public defenders, and is the most comprehensive study of public defense undertaken in Germany.
