Against the backdrop of a population explosion in the Third World, Maria Dörnemann examines the construction of population and associated political practices in Kenya by local, national, and international actors from the 1930s to the 1980s. She demonstrates the reciprocal impacts between population-policy thinking, its implementation in concrete programs, and visions of development for Kenya.

Die Vorstellung einer "Bevölkerungsexplosion" in der "Dritten Welt" entstand am Übergang von Kolonial- und Imperialpolitik zur internationalen Steuerung von Entwicklungsprozessen. Maria Dörnemann untersucht auf dieser Grundlage die Konstruktion von Bevölkerung und damit verknüpfter politischer Praktiken in Kenia durch lokale, nationale und internationale Akteure für die lange Dauer der 1930er bis in die 1980er Jahre.
