The South-German Plate Collection is a compendium of late medieval lay knowledge. It brings together popular knowledge about the well-being of the body and healing of the soul. It is replete with analogies of microcosmos and macrocosmos, presentations of the Artes liberales and philosophy, and the wheel of fortune. The interpretation of this textual and pictorial tradition is made with reference to a comprehensive collection of images.
