Von 1999-2004 war er Rektor der WHU und Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Unternehmenspolitik an dieser Hochschule. Er hat umfangreiche Erfahrungen in der Beratung technologieorientierter Unternehmen verschiedener Branchen.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexander Brem ist Inhaber des Stiftungslehrstuhls für Entrepreneurship in Technologie und Digitalisierung, gefördert durch den Daimler-Fonds im Stifterverband, an der Universität Stuttgart, wo er das Institut für Entrepreneurship und Innovationsforschung leitet.
