Linguistics has been underrepresented in the interdisciplinary field of decision making research. This study seeks to fill this gap by developing a linguistic model for the communicative practice of decision making. For the first time, it combines the methodologies of functional pragmatics and discourse linguistics, illustrating the method by specifically examining German parliamentary decision making in the area of energy policy in 19832013.
