"Bread and games" and "Healthy body, healthy mind" are well-known quotes from Classical literature. They both come from the Roman satirist Juvenal (approx. 60140 CE), who is known for extremely comical if sometimes exaggerated depictions that offer a dazzling image of daily life in ancient Rome. A completely new translation with extensive notes makes the work fully accessible to the modern reader.
