The study investigates prosodic, lexical, and syntactic variation in conceptual proximity and distance based on the example of conversational self-repair in French. In proximal speech, speakers tend to recontextualize corrections that would disrupt discourse with less grievous paraphrases. This procedure relies on conceptual proximity in conversation, and potentially leads to linguistic routinization.
