This book offers the first systematic and interdisciplinary analysis of the phenomenon of the war memorials in the archaic and classical periods. The study considers the interplay between war memories, collective identity, and urban history in the development of the memorial tradition. The result is an important contribution to our understanding of collective memory in ancient cultures.
