The first part introduces the basic concepts of upbringing, education and socialization and clarifies their importance for situations in educational work using example cases. The second part is concerned with the question of what it is that makes statements about upbringing, education and socialization into scientific statements. For this purpose, various views of science are presented and their relevance to educational work is examined using examples.

Das Buch vermittelt die wichtigsten Grundbegriffe, theoretischen Ansatze und methodischen Zugriffsweisen der Erziehungswissenschaft. Im ersten Teil werden die Grundbegriffe Erziehung, Bildung und Sozialisation vorgestellt und anhand von Fallbeispielen in ihrer Bedeutung fur padagogische Handlungssituationen verdeutlicht. Im zweiten Teil geht es um die Frage, was Aussagen uber Erziehung, Bildung und Sozialisation zu wissenschaftlichen Aussagen macht. Zu diesem Zweck werden verschiedene Auffassungen von Wissenschaft vorgestellt und anhand von Beispielen auf ihre Relevanz fur das padagogische Handeln gepruft.
