The handbook compiles essays on history and theory as well as the forms and procedures of transnational literatures. Starting from the observation that in the face of globalization and migration, literature is progressively less describable by the traditional categories of national literatures and languages, it examines the historical dimensions of this phenomenon and finds connections to theories of transnationality from related disciplines.
