There is no way to write or read literature without emotions. Unlike what is implied by today's notion of a contemporary emotional turn, reflections about poetry have been marked since antiquity by considerations about pathos, feeling, and emotion. This handbook offers a comprehensive presentation of this long reflective tradition and puts it the context of 20th and 21st century theoretical approaches, as illustrated by specific case studies.
