Written in the mid-1870s, Human, All Too Human reflects both a crisis and a new beginning in Nietzsche's thinking. While distancing himself from Wagner's dramatic conception of music, he also elaborates a notion of a fundamental will to power on the back of Schopenhauer's metaphysics of the will. In this voluminous work, Nietzsche presents himself as he would like to be: a free spirit.
