Since the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) from February 18, 1998, it is questionable, whether Widows' Pensions are property-protected under Art. 14 Abs. 1 GG or whether, as the court ruled, they are simply a public welfare issue. This question will be dealt with in a historical-legal manner through the work titled "The Long Struggle for Widows' Pensions", during which the historical development of previous rulings relating to §§ 46, 48 SGB VI will be analyzed. It is important to note, that the many problems we encounter today, where already being discussed by previous generations.
