This volume is the result of a joint conference of New Testament exegetes and epigraphists in Vienna in February 2014 which brought together experts to explore possibilities and avenues for a more systematic study of the epigraphical material and its relevance for interpreting the New Testament.

Recent years have seen a growing interest in approaches that try to place the New Testament within its original context. The proceedings of this conference illustrate the various ways that epigraphical material provides a treasure trove of insights for understanding Early Christianity and its writings.
