The book analyzes the (re)production of historical time in the commercial press a medium largely shaped by the category of time. The analysis develops time as a central resource for managing affiliation in modern societies. Given its ambivalent patterns of self-location, Polish-speaking society at the end of the 19 th century offers a paradigmatic example of this issue.
